Mercedes Vito Sport Brochure

A few weeks ago I was commissioned to do a shoot, the end client was Mercedes-Benz and the job was for the new Vito Sport brochure.

Mercedes are trying to tap into the lifestyle van market that Volkswagen have got the lions share of (45 years of heritage!). The art director had clear ideas which helped immensely with finding the locations. We used normal riders and kit to try a make it seem more accessible.

This is the finished article, apologies for the splitting of the double page spreads they were just too big otherwise.

Jamie Johnson | MacMahone | The Works – Leeds

Duncan McCann from All Mountain Imports (www.allmountainimports.co.uk will be live soon!) asked me up to his office at The Works skatepark in Leeds last week to show me his new MacMahone stuff, and see his new signing, Jamie Johnson.

We got Jamie to show us some moves and wow, this guy does stuff on 26in wheels that you’d normally only see on 20in, and not that often then!

Zumbi MBUK Advert

A few weeks ago I covered the launch for a new mountainbike team the 4Mountains/Fox/Zumbi world team, the original post is here, unfortunately they were still waiting for a few parts for the bikes so they weren’t completely to spec. Last week all the parts finally arrived and Duncan from Zumbi brought the bike down to the studio for some shots. We also needed to shoot for an ad to go in the next issue of MBUK so we went up to stainburn in the afternoon to shoot some action shots. Here are a few shots from the day and at the bottom is the ad that I designed for the magazine.

Snowboarding in Poland

Last weekend I jetted off to Poland with a few friends for a spot of snowboarding. Not the first place you’d think of but I’ve done some work Zumbi recently who are a Polish mountain bike company and skiing and snowboarding is quite popular. The resort we stayed at is the biggest in Poland, Zakopane, it’s not as big as a lot of the French resorts but it’s great for a weekend, especially with the exchange rate! I’d like to say a big thankyou to Pawel and Karolina from Zumbi for being great hosts and here are a few shots from the trip.

4Mountains/Fox/Zumbi World Team launch

On friday I was photographing the Zumbi World Team launch in Wharncliffe Woods in Sheffield. Zumbi are a Polish mountain bike company who handbuild all their frames in house, check out www.zumbicycles.co.uk for more info (great photography on this site BTW!).

The team is spearheaded by Neil Donahue and Helen Gaskell, both top 10 world riders.

Commencal Meta 6

I got the bike finished on Monday and went out for a quick 3 1/2 hour test ride on Tuesday afternoon.

2009 FIM World Indoor Trials Championship, Round 1, Sheffield, 3rd January

I’ve been to this event every year since it started, the last 3 as a photographer. Along with the Scottish Six Day and Scott this is a must attend event and a great opportunity to meet old friends. This year the event was live on Eurosport so there was a real buzz about the place. There were quite a few photogs there with it being a world championship event so I was working hard to shoot some different angles and think about the shots a bit more. Here a few of my favourites from the night.

Scott Trial 2008

The Scott Trial has been held since 1914 and is regarded as the hardest 1 day motorcycle event there is! I can testify to this having twice had a go and breaking down on both attempts.

The trial starts just outside Richmond in North Yorkshire and consists of a 75 mile loop completely off road, with 75 observed sections. What makes this trial different is that the fastest man round the course sets the time limit so everyone after him is late and gets penalties. The winner usually finishes in about 5 hours and this year out of the 200 starters there were 60 riders who finished in time!

I had just taken delivery of my new cameras so it was the perfect opportunity to try them them out. After the 1st group of sections it absolutely threw it down with rain so the cameras stayed in the car.

RAF water polo team, Ponds Forge, 27th Setember 2008

Something a bit different, I got asked if I could shoot a league match for the RAF water polo team for promotional use. It was a steep learning curve but soon found the best place’s to shoot from, this is what we got.
