James Stewart Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome

Hi, my name is James and I'm a photographer based in Yorkshire covering commisions all over the UK and further afield.  I specialise in shooting relaxed documentry style weddings, fabulous portraits for families, businesses and magazines, stylish commercial work and sports editorial.

This blog follows both my professional and personal life. It features pictures from the amazing weddings I've shot through to the places I've been.  It's a bit more informal than the main site and should hopefully give you an insight into who I am and what I'm about.

My old blog is still there so if you want to see some older posts please click here.

James Stewart Photography also has a page on facebook become a fan here

Thanks for visiting!

Paula & Jordan, wedding | Aston Church & Aston Hall Hotel

Any wedding on Christmas Eve needs to have a visit from Santa!

What a romantic day to get married, and to have snow as well, perfect!

I arrived at Aston Hall and headed upstairs to the suite where Paula and the girls were getting ready. The scene was very relaxed and I got on with photographing all the little details and the girls geting ready.

I then met the boy’s downstairs in then bar before everyone made their way over to the church.

After the ceremony we got everyone outside for a quick groupshot before moving into the warmth of the marquee.

The room for the wedding breakfast looked incredible, thanks to the venue styling of Lucy from Love in a Mist.

I had a great time photographing the wedding and I wish Paula and Jordan all the best for the future.

Wedding details;

Flowers – Kim from Krush
Dress – Anne by Sophie Tolli from Hoops a Daisy
Venue Styling – Lucy – Love in a Mist
Cake – Abbie – Butterflies and Angels
Venue - Aston Hall Hotel

Ishbel & Ben, wedding | Bolsover Castle & Whitley Hall

Ishbel & Ben got married just before Christmas, just as the cold weather started! The day was fantastic, just a sprinkling of snow but it was bitter so outside shots were very quick!

The ceremony was held at the amazing Bolsover castle and from there we went back into Sheffield to Whitley Hall for the reception, everyone was greeted with mulled wine which set the Christmas mood.

Wedding details;

Make up – Polly Jensen
Hair – Chris Storey – Toni & Guy
Dress – Fontaines by Suzanne Neville from Freya Bridal
Flowers – Jane Gibbs – The Green House
Ceremony venue – Bolsover Castle
Reception Venue – Whitley Hall

Here are a few favourites from the day;

Sian & Philip, Wedding | Whirlowbrook Hall, Sheffield

Another autumn wedding, unfortunately after Sian arrived the heavens opened and we didn’t get outside again!

Luckily Whirlowbrook Hall is such a fabulous venue the weather didn’t matter.

Sian had a purple theme and Emma from Orchis did a fantastic job with the flowers, the purple flowers even featured on the cake which was another masterpiece from Abbie at Butterflies & Angels.

Here’s a selection of favourites from the day.

Sanchia & Adam, Wedding | Leopold Hotel, Sheffield

Sanchia & Adam had a beautiful Atumn day for their wedding in Sheffield town centre.

The wedding was an intimate affair with the ceremony at Sheffield Town Hall and Afternoon Tea at The Leopold Hotel, with the fabulous chocolate cake provided by The Cake Booth

Here are a few favourites from the day.

MYVISION February 2010

I mentioned this a few times on facebook so I thought I’d better tell you what it was all about and show you a few images.

The MYVISION site has a lot of good stuff, including action shots of me working (check out the blog section).

I arrived in Brighton on Sunday afternoon not really knowing what to expect, I knew we were going to tested on our documentary photography skills but that was it! So along with 19 other participants we signed in and waited for our team leaders.

The first assignment was to split into pairs and take each others portraits, be on the other side of the camera, scary stuff. Still no word on what we would actually be doing for our assignment proper, this was be given to us first thing Monday morning when we arrived down stairs with our kit ready to shoot!

The next 2 days were spent documenting the workings of of classic car restoration workshop, with the results being critiqued into the early hours. The final slide shows of our work were shown on Wednesday night, it was pretty emotional and I’ve never seen so much amazing work back to back, not one bad photograph all night! The party continued until silly o’clock and to be honest it’s all still sinking in!

This was the most intensive, and the most rewarding few days photographic training I’ve ever done. I feel privileged to have spent time with such a fantastic group of people who have now become friends.

Here are a few images from my assignment, to be honest the photographs are pretty much irrelevant. the techniques and ideas that were taken away have changed the way I shoot and will continue to improve my photography forever!

Finally a big thanks to all the organisers, especially Jim, my team leader and to my hosts West Sussex Restorations.
